Is your newly adopted puppy too old for Puppy Basics? The curriculum of this class is very similar to our Puppy Basics, but for adolescent puppies and young adult dogs who are between 4 and 18 months old.

This class is designed for adolescent and young dogs to learn all the basic training skills, while emphasizing socialization and impulse control. We will be focusing on helping your older puppies to grow into confident and well-mannered adults.

Graduates of this class can join our Puppy Intermediate course.

• Number of sessions: 5

• Frequency and Duration: 50 minutes per week on Tuesday from July 23 to August 20

• Time: 5:15 p.m. - 6:05 p.m.

• Venue: Jeffrey’s North Beach (1841 Powell Street, San Francisco)

  REQUIREMENTS

  • 4 to 18 months old (Eligible DOB: 1/1/2023-3/22/2024. (If your puppy is a little older, email us at Events@JeffreysPets.com BEFORE you sign up. A waiver might be granted on a case-by-case basis.)

  • Puppy must have been in your home for AT LEAST 10 days prior to the first meeting. This is for the health and safety of all our puppy students. If your puppy has been in your home less than 10 days, you can attend the first class WITHOUT your puppy and then practice at home during the week.

  • Your puppy must be FULLY vaccinated AT LEAST 7 days prior to the first meeting.

  • Bordetella (Kennel cough) and Canine Influenza Virus H3N2/H3N8 vaccines recommended, but not required. Please consult your veterinarian.

  • Your puppy must not attend class wearing a slip, shock, choke or prong collar. Flat collars or harnesses ONLY.

  • This course is not appropriate for fearful, aggressive, reactive dogs or dogs who bark excessively. Owners of dogs who exhibit signs of these issues are encouraged to seek out private training.

  WHAT WE WILL COVER

  • Proper greetings

  • Loose leash walking

  • Impulse control

  • Basic cues such as Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, Come and Leave it

    WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Basic, simple 6’ leash and collar

  • Lots of high-valued, tasty treats cut in pea-size pieces [Treats must be of high value because we will be working in distractions and nothing is more distracting than other puppies]

  • Several items for your pup to chew on when your trainer demos (For example, stuffed kong, bully stick, beef tendon, etc)

  • Small rug, blanket, or towel

  • Your puppy
