Puppy Basics with Michelle Martens at Jeffrey's North Beach (6:30pm starting Wednesday, November 20)
This class is designed to develop a solid foundation of basic puppy skills so all members of the family can interact safely and confidently, and have fun with the new family member.
Instructor: Michelle Martens, CTC, '08 honors graduate of the Academy for Dog Trainers
Number of sessions: 4
Frequency and Duration: 60 minutes per week on Wednesday from November 20 to December 18 (no class on November 27)
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Venue: Jeffrey’s North Beach (1841 Powell Street, San Francisco)
Number of attendees: Each dog can come with 2 adults and 1 child over 4 years old. We require at least one adult per enrolled dog. [If you want to bring more guests, please let us know so that we can plan accordingly.]
REQUIREMENTS
8 to 16 weeks old (Eligible DOB: 7/27/2024-9/25/2024.) [All puppy students need to be within the same developmental time frame. After 18 weeks your puppy is entering their teenage years, with adult teeth, jaw strength, and attitude. If your puppy is 18+ weeks old, please sign up for our Older Puppy Basics. If your puppy falls slightly outside the listed eligible DOB, please email us at Events@JeffreysPets.com BEFORE you sign up for this class.]
Puppy must have been in your home for AT LEAST 10 days prior to the first meeting. This is for the health and safety of all our puppy students. If your puppy has been in your home less than 10 days, you can attend the first class WITHOUT your puppy and then practice at home during the week.
At least one set of Distemper & Parvo vaccines and the first de-worming administered AT LEAST 7 days prior to the first meeting.
Bordetella (Kennel cough) and Canine Influenza Virus H3N2/H3N8 vaccines recommended, but not required. Please consult your veterinarian.
Your puppy must not attend class wearing a slip, shock, choke or prong collar. Flat collars or harnesses ONLY.
WHAT WE WILL COVER
Socialization (people and dogs)
Proper greetings
Loose leash walking
Impulse control
Commands, such as: Sit, Down, Stay, Come
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Basic, simple 6’ leash and collar
Lots of high-valued, tasty treats cut in pea-size pieces [Treats must be of high value because we will be working in distractions and nothing is more distracting than other puppies]
Several items for your pup to chew on when your trainer demos (For example, stuffed kong, bully stick, beef tendon, etc)
Small rug, blanket, or towel
